Bed of Guns (A Weekend in A Moro Land Part II)

Last Sunday was bound to be a great day! Excitement is just the word for the day. Aside from our travel to Midsayap, it was also Manny Pacquiao’s fight against Velasquez. Well, as early as 10am, we already knew that Manny had won in the match, and so did the other two Filipino boxers. Hurray!

Well, our breakfast comprised a selection of Moslem cuisine: tinapayan (buro in Tagalog) and dried kadulog (biyak in Tagalog), and rattan meat (I don't know if it was sautéed or steamed).

As we begun our journey, we passed by vast rice fields and illustrious mosques. Then on top of the hill, you’ll see a fortress erected by the Spaniards in early 1890s that now served as a camp for the Phil. Army. Quite an irony, isn’t it? A Spanish establishment in the midst of Moro lands. Well, maybe not. After all, the Moors had occupied Spain and other Catholic countries in early days.

The ultimate reason of our travel was to visit my boyfriend’s uncle. There were six of us: myself my boyfriend (Pet), his dad (Tito Tony), his younger brother Rajah, and his two uncles (Tito Rudy and Tito Boy).

Now, these people are gun collectors. They join in shooting festivals in which they are well-known of. Their's is a group of cousins and close family friends bonded by their interests and affinity since their youth. However, over the years, since they all have married and with a lot of things to take care of, they only get to meet once in a while...but for one exemption: when they have something new to show to the group.

And these are what we've come to see...

Some of these were painstakingly assembled, piece by piece...I was told that those laid on the bed may cost at least one million pesos...and take note, these are not all that he's got. Every room and part of his house has at least two hidden firearms...and the man's house is a mansion!

His uncle is so passionate with anything/everything related to armory. He's even got life size dummies of various men in combat uniforms, authentic soldiers' helmets, backpacks, and other personal effects. You'd be amazed, he's got an authentic Nazi helmet (with a SS brand on it). Simply amazing!

Behind me are the life size dummies...He's got 8 of them. They're even stored in an air-conditioned room! He also collects samurais. They're authentic, some of which he purchased through auctions or during his travels abroad and the rest were mostly gifts from friends.

Well, I don't know much about guns but I am fascinated with them. However, it is indeed a very expensive hobby to nurture. I keep on diverting my boyfriend's desire in buying more guns as he's got a lot already but when I saw him with those guns, I realized that he's missing out a LOT! haha He can hardly keep his mouth shut in awe! He's not a total war-freak...medyo lang!hehe So, wag na wag ninyo akong aapihin! I've got a bodyguard-boyfriend in keeping...ay, I know how to shoot but not that sharp yet. I'm working on it though... sana maging kasing galing ako nila.
